Chapter 1 part 3

By freshman year in high school, Max developed an intense obsession for Mei Gordon. The problem of course was Mei; she never noticed him and wouldn’t even look in his direction. Max did not have the courage to approach her she intimidated him. Whenever Max did build up enough courage to talk to her something always went wrong, it was as if the universe was telling him. “She is just too good for you.”

“I don’t know what it is? Here we are in our junior year and soon to enter our senior year of high school and she won’t even look in my direction, it’s like she finds me repulsive, but I can’t get my mind off of her, something about her has got a hold of me and won’t let go?” Max thought.

It was two thirty in the afternoon. March thirteenth, Friday had finally rolled around. Everyone was eager to get out. Flyers had been passed around about a party at Zack’s house later on that night.  The entire high school football team planned to be there. This included Max Martinez and Nelson Lopez.

Max and Nelson played high school football since their freshman year. Nelson was the main player on the field playing quarterback for the Belmont Eagles. Max was a wide receiver being one of the fastest runners on the field gave him much attention. Although both Max and Nelson were well known for their skills on the field very little people knew the real Max. However Nelson was known as a flirt.

Max was full of mystery; many girls assumed he was like his best friend Nelson. He dated very few girls at school. Some believed he was just afraid of dating a gold digger. Everyone in town knew his mother Jenna Burgess, she was infamous through out town, and known for being a gold digger.

Max had other reasons for his way of dating. His latest catch was Taisha Ledell; Max never called her his girlfriend. He believed in casual dates, he didn’t want to be tied down to one girl. However if you spoke to Taisha Ledell you would get a different story.

Max enjoyed going on dates, but never allowed the relationship to go any further. Claiming that he just wanted to feel things out first before jumping in the deep end. There was not one girl who he could not get out of his mind nor could he seem to get her attention. Mei Gordon was that exception, Max found her to be intoxicating her beauty was exotic she looked like a beautiful warrior queen. She was lean with slender muscles, Mei was also one of the most intelligent girls in class, but she kept to herself. She had a best friend named Cora Pennington and a few other friends, but she never really got into the cliques at school she stay apart.  She was like a mystery to Max and he wanted to unravel her.

Max leaned back as he casually glanced at Mei a beautiful African American and Asian green-eyed girl she had a golden complexion, a gorgeous smile and a gentle heart. Max’s grey eyes sparkled when he looked at her. A slow smile grew over his face when he suddenly felt a sharp jab in his side; he spun his head around to see Taisha Ledell glaring at him. They bickered under their breaths when the teacher cleared her throat loudly. Everyone looked back at them even Mei Gordon. Out of every one who was staring at them Mei’s eyes is the one he felt. Max stared intensely back at Mei their eyes locked on each other.  “If you can hear this, then you’re the one I’ve been searching for, come back to me.” Max channeled to Mei.

Mei felt the strangest sensation; her ears began to ring until she could hear audible words. “Come back…to me?” Mei grabbed her left ear confused and a bit frightened, it seemed as if Max Martinez was staring right at her. She didn’t realize she had been staring right back at him. Mei looked away quickly still holding her ear she quickly grabbed her books as the bell rang she darted for the door.

Max stood up quickly as he noticed Mei’s reaction “I know she heard me” he thought as he quickly grabbed his books trying to pursue her. Just as he made it out the door he was roughly yanked backwards by Taisha.

“Where do you think you are going?”

“Taisha, Look we had a couple dates, you know how I am, I don’t do steady, I am just not ready for a relationship.”

Max walked off quickly, leaving Taisha who was desperately trying to catch her breath dumbfounded. Taisha was so in love with Max, she foolishly believed that Max at least liked her. They dated for a month he was a great catch when they had sex just a week ago Taisha couldn’t get enough of him. She was sure he wanted to be with her. Taisha also loved his gentlemen like demeanor; he would open and close doors for her. Max was the one for her and, Taisha was not ready to let go.

The final bell rang. Mei Gordon couldn’t make it to her locker fast enough to shove her books in the locker and escape this hell called high school. She casually notice the eye of Max Martinez staring in her direction, but decided he must be looking at Paula Waters who was walking behind her.  “All the guys wanted to get a piece of Paula Waters she was a little miss everything who could compete with that.” She grumbled under her breath.

Mei made it to her locker shoved her books inside and slammed her locker closed. She quickly headed out the main doors rushing to her bus, as she rushed out the door Mei felt Max’s stare again.  “Is he looking at me?” Mei questioned herself? She jumped onto her bus putting that question behind her.

Max Martinez stood at the foot of Belmont high school steps imaging what it would be like to just talk to Mei Gordon. Her beautiful almond shaped green eyes and golden complexion intoxicated Max. He loved her soft wavy hair and beautiful smile.

“Oh boy, you got the stare. That could only mean one thing. You’ve just seen Mei.” Nelson Lopez stated to his best friend as he approached.

Max couldn’t help the smile that stretched across his face. “Well, my man, you know me to well” Max replied.

“Don’t give up, one day she will notice you. You’ll just have to break your neck on the field.” Nelson joked. “Just joking but, in the mean time let’s hit the house party to night, man everyone is going to be there. So many hotties to help you pass the time, you know what I mean.” Nelson exclaimed.

“Ah, I’m not into that scene you know that.” Max replied, as they began to walk towards his car in the student parking lot.

“Come on man it’s almost the end of the year, and you haven’t gone to any parties. If your not going to do it for yourself, don’t be selfish, do it for me?” Nelson said, laughing.

“I’m supposed to help my uncle with something tonight, I can’t” Max replied. “Hey, I promise, if something comes up, if something changes I’ll go…promise.”  Max ended. Max knew his uncle all to well he never cancelled on him. Every Friday the 13 his uncle would insist that he stay over at the mansion, and far away from his mother Jenna. Max didn’t always understand his uncle, but he obeyed him.

“Deal that’s fair…so what’s your uncle’s number?” Nelson Joked.

Max laughed as they entered into his 2010 Gold Chevy suburban his father had just bought for him. Max loved his fully loaded truck and planned to buy rims for it soon, but wanted to just enjoy the new smell and feel of it first.
